funny haha or funny weird?
it dawned on me that some of life's finer moments that are truly funny occur during very awkward moments in life. moments that while they are happening, are not funny, but instead cause pain or embarrassment. but with time, with comparison of stories with friends, with distance, the moment is no longer awkward, but funny.
awkward: hard to deal with; especially causing pain or embarrassment (according to define: awkward at google)
one of my favorite moments in life was caused by my mother (who does not read this blog, at least, i don't think so).
scene: early morning. two newly dating people, t and j, are preparing to go to market and buy vegetables for the week. it is clear by the hour that t spent the night at j apartment. they are patiently waiting the arrival of j's mother.
j: we'll leave when she gets here.
t: how much longer?
j: i don't know.
knock on door.
the mom: hi. are we ready?
j: yeah. hang on, let me get my bag.
j's mother looks at t.
the mom: are you two using birth control?
t: stammering and stuttering. yes.
j: mom! shakes head.
the mom: without missing a beat, because i can get you spermicide if you need it.
j: no thanks. sighs and continues to shake head while rolling eyes and making any other gesture to convey her fed-uppedness.
t: frozen. finally coming alive. should we go?
end scene.
this is by far one of the funnier moments in my life. i am so glad we can joke about it now. can you say awkward?

Oh my, awkward indeed!
I just had a baby and even still, the fact that my parents (obviously) must know I've had sex, at least ONCE ;) makes me cringe a bit.
Before I went to Spring Break with my college boyfriend, my mom bought me a pack of condoms while I was at the store with her. I died.
the idea that my parents know i have sex does not bother me. and that conversation was less awkward for than it was t as i tried to save him from the clutches of my mother. but you know that if he can take that from my mother, wow... some guy.
