you're such a snot
if you are a music snot, and you read this, i warn you now, that what i am about to write is going to offend you and make me so much less cool in your eyes. not that i was cool to begin with. but i strongly suggest you stop reading and resist the urge to roll your eyes at me and make fun of me.
i am one of those people who makes friends, for whatever reason, with music snots. you know the ones who own like a thousand cds or songs and listen to all the cool indie bands that when they get popular the snot moves on to some other uber cool indie band. i know lots of music snots. and i only remain friends with them if they don't make fun of me the way they want to when i admit...
i like soundtracks. a lot.
i am a visual person by nature and not very good musically. i don't name songs or bands unless it is really obvious. and one of my music snot friends, "gondola molly", was always so proud of me if i got it right or was close. i liked making her proud of me. so anyway. frequently, movies with a good soundtrack strike me as awesome because i get both, music with a visual.
this is why i like it when mtv has music videos because i am more likely to remember the band and the song if i have something to look at. and lyrics don't cut it.
but there is another reason why i like soundtracks. i like them because i get all sorts of different bands and music conveniently located on one disk. it is the commercial mixed tape. and no one can deny the glorious love of mixed tapes. that's why high fidelity is such an awesome movie (movie about music snots). that and john cusack. but that i get exposed to different sounds and that i have a visual cue to help me remember it makes the soundtrack all the more for me.
only a few music snots have ever forgiven me for this, "gondola molly" being one of them. but seriously, not my fault that i was raised on commercial mtv. it stole my musical soul.

Oh really, music snots can't like soundtracks? I thought I was a music snot and I love soundtracks too. When I love the 'mood' of a movie, I love it when the soundtrack captures that mood too so I can go back over and over.
i have been told by many music snots, in fact, all of them, that it is nothing to speak of. i should be ashamed, very ashamed. only "gondola molly" was decent about it. the others shook there heads... snots!
Unbelievable! Well-done soundtracks are like concept albums. How could people naysay that?! SNOTS!
I married a music snob. He's coming around a bit, but I still have to play SexyBack when he's at work. ;-)
(Though he DID say last night that he respects Justin Timberlake a bit more after the SNL skit...)
