holy smokes!: October 2007 Archives
this is how thomas' morning goes...
hilary clinton. yes. this blog has taken a political slant. i cannot vote for a woman sporting a mullet. the tiara-fashionista-bitch in me will not allow it. she has just got to do something about her hair.
my fellow americans, i urge you to consider the issues, to educate yourselves, to think about what social, economic and political issues are at hand. i urge you to realize that hilary clinton has a mullet cut and looks like she is all business in the front and party in the back. something has to be done.

i love halloween. let me repeat, i LOVE halloween. there is nothing better in the whole wide world than halloween. really.
thomas has christmas, and we do it well, and i am already pre-shopping for the christmas season. but there is something about halloween that feeds me, and no, i am not talking about the candy. i really think it is the sheer creativity of the costumes, the joy the kids get, the sugar high, the fun, the mayhem and all the scary movies.
to me, halloween is about making your costume and pulling it all together. it is about seeing all the kids come to your door and say trick or treat (i give out good candy) and figuring out who they are. there is the cute factor, the creative factor, the scary factor, the clever factor, all of these come into play with the costumes. the sexy costumes should seriously be reserved for parties, not trick or treat.
i love halloween.

yes. there is a problem with blogging, or at least i should say, the kind of blog i have creates problems.
my blog is not an anonymous blog where i can just let everyone have it, or talk about everything, or share my inner most feelings at any given moment. i read people who have that kind of blog and i think that is cool but at the same time, i want to be able to share this with people who want to read about me (the most important person in the universe! duh!).
but this creates some problems because people i know could get hurt, be offended by or get angry at what i am sharing-- certain bits of information. i am not dooce, i do not make a living off of this blog. and i have a career where students or administrators could stumble upon this and that could be upsetting to my career (once again, i am not dooce and don't want to be dooced).
so the problem is, on an occasion, i have things to say that are totally blogworthy, but would be at the expense of friends or colleagues or students. i have thoughts and concerns about things but i only get to express them to thomas. it's just. well. sometimes i would like to be able to purge them so that others can tell me they know what i am thinking or feeling.
of course, not all of the stuff i want to be able to share is bad, some of it is quite funny, but once again, not necessarily something that i can share with everyone. thousands of people have written about their blogs in a metadiscussion of what it means to blog and why they blog and blog, blog, blog. people have given up their blogs because they don't feel they get to discuss what they want, or their readers (audience) guide their posts, but i love this and i just wanted to let you know, that sometimes, just sometimes, i am disappointed that i can't share everything with you.

have you ever woken up and wondered...
is it christmas?
well now there is a site dedicated to answering that question for you.
enjoy. oh, and it has a handy rss feed for you.

i am afraid to say that i have the nasty habit of personifying my ipod. this of course, embarrassed the hell out of thomas while we were purchasing my brand spanking new ipod!!!
i recycled my old one. it is now off to a farm where it will frolic with other ipods. it will play music, run up and down beautiful green pastures, have all the latest downloads and of course, get to interface with other ipods.
i had to take a moment at the passing of my baby.
my new ipod is an itouch. i went trendy, and well, i do not regret it at all. now, i can surf the web on it and wifi in to itunes and download music directly. loves it. and watch tv and everything. now i need a splitter for the plane so it can be shared.

one of my biggest weaknesses is coke. because it is the most wonderfullest breuvage on the face of the earth. true story!
maple, our youngest kitty, totally drinks after anyone AND drinks anything in a glass. this is true of anything. like orange juice. i have never met a cat who was not offended by citrus, but if it is in a glass, she is open to it.
i was on the computer earlier drooling over the pods and trying to decide when i hear this really loud slurping! omg! all she needed was a straw and she would have made bubbles. i peered around the laptop to see her headfirst in my glass of coke.
the following conversation happened:
me: maple!
maple: i lickz my lipz (she speaks lol cat fluently).
me: that's my coke!
maple: i haz coke 2.
i really am glad she is an indoor cat because i would be rabid in about 200 days. fyi, i still drank the coke. i have no limits on sharing food. ask me about the apple and the 2 year old... yes. i have no limits.

i have a bit of a dilemma. my ipod is dead. i have mentioned this already, and i am sure, oh so sure you don't care about my dead ipod.
but maybe you can help. i am getting a new one at the fancy apple store this weekend and i don't know which one to get.
you see, the nano is cute and little and light. it comes in all sorts of different colors. it is marketing genius and did i mention it is so cute and little and comes in many colors?
then there is the regular ipod. but it only comes in black or white and i just don't feel that it gives me the "pretty" factor the nano gives me even though it gives me the "size matters" factor.
and finally, there is the itouch. now, this one gets me points because it is all fancy and new. it is pretty and also a marketing dream, but with its size, it doesn't give me the same quantity as the regular ipod.
so the dilemma is which ipod do i want?

saturday i got my hair chopped off. about 8 inches was hacked away and even though that much was cut, my hair still touches my shoulders.
a girlfriend of mine commented on the fact that i can have that much hair taken off and still have a ton of it left. i can't help it. my hair has a mind of its own and grows so fast.
the thing is, i totally got a rock star haircut but this morning, i didn't have the time to do the rock star style that i wanted. i am totally thinking of streaking bright red through it. i mean fire engine red. as in, whir, sirens blaring red.
so. goal number one for tomorrow is to get out the product, style, style, style.
i am thinking that i want it to spike out and be all flair and fun tomorrow. it is certainly cut to play with, so why not.

today, on my morning commute in, i made the mistake of not taking an umbrella with me.
at first, it was ok because it was only sprinkling. and then it rained harder and i got stuck under a tree. then it stopped and i thought i had a window of opportunity to get to the office.
nope.
i got stuck under another tree. a lovely man who was watering his flowers (yes, during a shower) told me to go and stand on his porch. while i was there, he came out and offered me an umbrella. i smiled as big as i possibly could and thanked him.
that one little umbrella made me so happy. he was so kind to give me that umbrella. i returned it this afternoon on my walk home. and i am going to send him the nicest thank you note ever.
