well.  sorry leah, but your site has been banned from the hospital as offensive.  i love it when places do this.  dooce is not offensive.  neither is eka.  but thingsmyboyfriend says is.  girl is not.  lainey is clearly not offensive since her sister works here... can we say favoritism? : )  asofterworld is safe and unoffensive as is postsecret

hmmm.  does any of this make sense to you?  i think some of those sites are much more controversial than dear little leah.  sorry leah, you are far to sweet.  yet girl does not worry the catholic philosophy of the hospital internet administrators.  hmmm.  maybe the catholics have gone sex progressive... but are still anti- living with your boyfriend...

sitting wishing waiting

long story, but i have been in a waiting room all day.  i am still here after having gotten here at 10am.  you check the blog post time.

while sitting here and chatting with a friend and hearing of castro's retirement, i decided to create my own "before i die wishlist."  a little side note here.  um.  this list is being written by me and you have to remember that i am, well, the center of the universe.  : )

1.  cause missile crisis à la cuban missile crisis, but on a scale of princess magnitude.
2.  take over world and rule with iron tiara.
3.  impose a tiara wednesday and a tutu thursday.
4.  snuff out revolution with marshmallows and smores treats.
5.  outlaw snow.  unless i want snow.  then it is legal.
6.  brainwash the world to forget about the hokey pokey and the electric slide.  ok.  brainwash the world to forget about all forms of line dancing because it is wrong.
7.  imprison bob costas and throw rotten fruit at him on a daily basis.  his tyranny must come to an end.
8.  have a portable fountain coke machine.
9.  create a peanut butter monopoly around the world with jif peanut butter.  really, nothing else should exist.  posers.
10.  eradication of the world's pigeon and squirrel population.  fu¢king flying and tree rats.
i have often felt that the american k-12 system does a disservice to our students in a lot of ways.  this is not to say that i have the answer and i can solve the problem or that i think someplace else does it better.  what i am saying is, we have a problem.

i believe in the very politically incorrect notion that not everyone should get, needs to get, wants to get, or will merit from a college education.  i know.  you can yell at me whenever you want.  but i have seen lots of students go through college miserable, all because of parental pressure, societal pressure, or the fact that their high school counselor told them to go to college.  (i also don't think that just because you don't have a college education means you are an uneducated idiot... gasp!)  this is a digression from my point.

my point is this.  how many of you, in your everyday life, at your everyday jobs, have to ask for permission to go to the bathroom?  i am not talking about excusing yourself to go to the bathroom... i am not talking about that at all.  i am talking about asking for permission.

k-12 (and i get why they do it... but...) forces students to give up a fundamental right by asking permission to go and relieve oneself.  now this may seem like a silly problem i have, but do you know how often, how many times, how many minutes i have spent answering the question, "may i please go to the bathroom"?  A LOT.  these are adults.  who have been brainwashed.  who think they need permission.  this is sad to me.

this is so sad to me that it took a step further the other day in class, a large class, where a student raised his hand to get permission to leave because he was sick and ended up vomiting on the people around him.  yes.  this is a true story.  why must we train our kids to ask for permission?  can't he have been taught, if you think you might harf, then please get up and go...???

yes we can

one of the crazy things about me is that i love voting.  a lot of people love to vote but i get joy and delight while doing it.  there is a slight problem though with voting... sometimes, just sometimes... it is not as exciting as others.

it has everything to do with the candidate.  have you ever gone in to vote and known you aren't backing the winner?  you hope the person you are voting for is better than the other one, but in all reality, it could be a toss-up?  it has been a while for me since the last time i was REALLY EXCITED about a candidate.

and for me, obama inspires that excitement.  that desire to vote.  that want to change things.  that dream of making it better.  that hope of a bright and brilliant future.  he can inspire.  and in my opinion, our country needs some inspiration, some dreams, wants, and hope.

this video captures that feeling tenfold!
