as of late, i have not been sleeping well.  it is my summer insomnia.  the cats all want to be around me, moving or hogging the bed.  there is a dog outside who whimpers and cries.  noise, my general uncomfortableness and then, waking up in the middle of it all. 

but dammit if that hammock didn't sleep great.  why is that?

doctor:  i'll go check your flu results, but i am pretty sure it'll be negative and you have walking pneumonia.

me:  great!

doctor:  well, it explains the exhaustion and your chest pain, and your cough.

few minutes pass by.  doctor returns.

doctor:  well, it has never happened before.  i was wrong.  you are positive for the flu.

conclusion.  i do love it when doctor's are thoroughly entertained by their "wrongness".  he still thinks i have walking pneumonia but the xray didn't prove it to his eyes.  so... YEAH for antibiotics.

i can't tell you a lot about the brady bunch.  i've watched it.  there are a ton of shows and cartoons out there from my childhood.  but i can't tell you the life story of the characters anymore, or sing the songs, or relate to the story, or etc.

but sesame street.  wow.  a friend has a son who now watches it and it is frequently on when i am over there.  i know this show.  i still love it.  it still entertains me.  i get nostalgic.  i love watching him watch it.  cookie is my main squeeze, i am glad everyone knows snuffleupagus is real, ernie is goofy and mischevious, the count and his ba-ah-ah, oscar... i know them like i know my family.

no one needs to tell me how to get to sesame street... i know how.

i am, by no mean's, a prude.  nudity does not bother me.  i have been to topless beaches, and frankly, boobs are boobs.  i have my own set.  but i have never understood why our culture cannot stand the thought of a woman's boobs.  OMG BOOBS!  and i have often said that it is unfair that a man gets to stand on his lawn, topless, while doing yard work on a hot day.  not that i am going to strip (i don't even wear shorts). 

breastfeeding aside and whether it makes you uncomfortable to watch and what-not (i am a believer in don't look, you can refrain from watching a kid pick his nose if it makes you ill, then don't look at the kid at the boob), i like that the article points out that a man's nipples are ok, but mine are not.  what.  the.  hell?

anyway, the article is worth a read just to see some arguments on both sides.

the thing that shocks me about this study is that 82% of the pledgers denied taking the pledge five years later!  in addition, the use of contraceptives among the pledgers is quite shocking.

you know, i believe whole heartedly in abstinence education.  abstinence is the only way to prevent 100% anything from happening, however, i do believe in informing kids of their options out there.  condoms, pills, diaphragms, sponges, spermicides, implants, etc.  it is up to each kid to decide what is right for them on a moral, ethical, emotional, personal level.  but if they are informed, maybe they'll make the best "healthy" choice for themselves.
